Gabriel Fellowship
THE ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO GABRIEL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
The Archdiocese of Chicago Gabriel Fellowship Program was established in 2022 through the generosity of a donor interested in increasing the strength and diversity of Catholic media voices. The Program offers exceptional opportunities for recent college graduates and experienced broadcast journalists and film makers to spend a year exploring stories about the impact of faith on our daily lives.
As members of The Archdiocese of Chicago multimedia content team, Fellows will work on assignments individually and alongside experienced staff, producing 24 hours of original monthly radio and broadcast programming, two broadcast magazines, and multilingual broadcast Masses that reach 250,000 weekly They will have the opportunity to generate stories, research content and execute compelling pieces.
Fellows will travel to Los Angeles for seminars and coaching from directors, writers and cinematographers experienced in the documentary film process. Fellows will also complete a longer form video capstone project.
At the end of the fellowship, participants will have a current and polished body of work that represents their abilities to perform in professional news rooms or on production teams. Fellows receive a salary and comprehensive benefits package and will have access to their own gear.
Gabriel Fellowships are full time 12-month positions awarded to applicants with two levels of experience:
Scope
- Research and write both short and long form pieces
- Repurpose the content produced by the department into longer format specials and discussion programs
- Assist in the production of podcasts, video streams, and radio programs.
- Research and produce a short form documentary or podcast series on a religious topic.
- Produce a long form capstone project
Requirements
- Possess significant skills as a multimedia journalist or documentary producer/director
- Have proficiency with Premiere Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Scope
- Assist in the production of podcasts, video streams, and radio programs.
- Research and produce a short form documentary or podcast series on a topic related to archdiocese mission and ministries.
- Shoot, write, edit at least 2 short form pieces each week
- Produce a long form capstone project.
Requirements
- Skilled at researching topics, setting up interviews, writing scripts
- Proficiency with Premiere Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud.
